  Ferrari Bike

Ferrari has submitted a patent for a new V-twin engine, raising keen suspicion that the famed supercar manufacturer is turning its attention to motorcycles.

The patent is only for an "Internal combustion engine with 'V' configuration of the cylinders," reports Visor Down. However, included in the application is a technical drawing of the engine used in a motorcycle. The sketch shows a classic chopper style bike, which could hint to the design of a future model but could equally just be a generic image.

Ferrari has also submitted a trademark application for the name 'Cavallino', which means 'pony' in Italian, and marked it for vehicle use. There's currently no hard evidence to link the two but here's hoping the Italian marque is branching out. The thought of a motorcycle with some Ferrari flare is definitely getting our hearts racing.

In the patent application, Ferrari claims the new engine will no longer need balancing countershafts and can reduce or eliminate the vibrations riders currently get with V-twins. Ferrari instead states that they are using "balancing masses" directly attached to the crankshaft and says that this will cut the overall weight of the engine and the forces on it.

Only one motorcycle has ever carried the Ferrari badge - the Ferrari 900, an aluminium-bodied creation, fitted with a 105hp 900cc inline four-cylinder motor. The bike was a tribute to Enzo Ferrari. The creator, David Kay Engineering, was granted permission from Enzo's son Piero Ferrari to use the prancing horse badge on his motorcycle, which was sold for £85,000 at auction after failing to sell on eBay for £250,000.

  Bucket List ideas
Posted by: nuggiebok - 10-03-2014, 10:47 AM - Forum: General Chat and Banter and Sillyness! Anything goes. - Replies (10)

PO and I were talking about bucket lists the other day. He asked me what was on my list. I haven't really thought about it before, probably due to having two girls and life feeling a bit hectic at the moment I am very much living in the present and not spending too much energy on thinking about the future, if that makes sense.

But it got me thinking, so let's have upto 5 things on your bucket list, things to do before you die...

(In no particular order)
1. Run a marathon
2. Tour the USA on a Harley Davidson
3. Take the girls to Disney Florida
4. Own a Ducati Panigale
5. Sky dive

There's loads more come to think of it...

  What are your day jobs?
Posted by: nuggiebok - 10-03-2014, 10:41 AM - Forum: General Chat and Banter and Sillyness! Anything goes. - Replies (25)

As it has been a while for me since I visited the TM forum, I'd like to get to know you all again. So, what do you all do for a living? Do you enjoy your job? What would you do if you could do anything and if money was no object?

I'll start. I'm still a PC in Gloucestershire and I work on traffic. I love my job, despite the Police Service changing a lot over the last 10 years. I wish I was paid more for what we have to do on a daily basis, but then who doesn't. I am still patiently waiting for a bike course...

If money was no object I'd like to work with dogs, either in a kennels/rescue centre, or training and obedience. I'd also love to own a cafe in the high street, and do face painting for children's parties.

Over to you...

Had a meander home on the bike tonight. Tomorrow is a rest day and I now work from home on a Friday. Phone lines diverted from work, accounts software upto date on my laptop. That leaves one thing to do tonight ...

* The other occurred on Longlands Road, New Mills, between Saturday 20th and Wednesday 29th September. A pressure washer and leaf blower were taken from under an insecure car port. Crime 41345/14.
