TV Series Worth Watching.
#71
Ray Donovan Series three has started. First episode was very good. Bodes well.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2249007/

Humans (Channel 4) - Enjoyable and worth a watch.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4122068/

Quote:In a parallel present where the latest must-have gadget for any busy family is a 'Synth' - a highly-developed robotic servant that's so similar to a real human it's transforming the way we live.

Crap ^^ description.
It delves into all sorts. Family and personal relationships with 'synths'. It also looks from the synths perspective and how the way they are treated (abused) develops their synthetic personalities and behaviour. Lots of sub plots intertwining. I'm enjoying it.

Ballers.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2891574/

Quote:A series centered around a group of football players and their families, friends, and handlers.

That is American Football and it stars Dwayne The Rock Johnson. I've only watched the first episode, but will stick with it for a couple more to see where it goes. Johnson plays ex footballer Spenser Strasmore who becomes an agent after injury. The series is pretty much about him, his attempts to make it as an agent and dealing with his friends and family. It's light hearted and has its funny moments. 7.6 IMDb rating probably says more than I can at the moment.

Mr Robot

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4158110/

Quote:Elliot Alderson, a young cyber-security engineer living in New York who assumes the role of a vigilante hacker by night. Elliot meets a mysterious anarchist known as "Mr. Robot" who recruits Elliot to join his team of hackers, "fsociety". Elliot, who has a social anxiety disorder and connects to people by hacking them, is intrigued but uncertain if he wants to be part of the group. The show follows Mr. Robot's attempts to engage Elliot in his mission to destroy the corporation Elliot is paid to protect. Compelled by his personal beliefs, Elliot struggles to resist the chance to take down the multinational CEOs that are running (and ruining) the world.

Good, strong series. Very topical - so if it develops well could be the new '24'. 9.3 rating on IMDb tells you it's pretty good. I've watched the first four episodes and it's well worth a look.

You beat me to it Paul started getting into Mr Robot, I thought they were going to do the usual pilot then cancel as there was a long wait for the second episode but it was worth the wait. The characters are well written and it does make you wonder what company evilcorp is mimicking apple perhaps or google?

The Brink.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3216586/

Quote:Top U.S. government and military scramble to prevent World War 3 from happening amidst the chaos of a geopolitical crisis.

7.7 on IMDb is fair. It's like 'Homeland' but very tongue in cheek. A dark and whacky comedy with a few laugh out loud moments and some very pretty ladies.  Cool
Robins is brilliant as Secretary Walter Larsen. Episodes are only 30 mins, so it's a quick fix and well worth the time.

Last Man on Earth

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3230454/

Quote:Phil Miller was a normal guy, but when a plague struck, he became the last man on earth. His only wish was to have company, preferably a female. When he meets a survivor named Carol, he starts to rethink his wish.

Have watched the first three eps. and this seems quite good/funny. A virus has wiped out the population, bar Phil. He desperately tries to find any other survivors before giving up and 'going native'. It's funny as you are nodding along in agreement with some of the things Phil does with everything there to be taken, but grimacing at others as Phil does things ... just because he feels there is no need to make any effort at all.

Bobs along nicely and it's obvious Phil is set to meet people and will have to re-train himself for human contact etc. Good harmless fun and well worth a watch. Another decent IMDb score of 7.6 which is fair.

Eye Candy

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3186162/

Lindy is a 21-year-old hacker with a gift for seeing clues and connections in the digital world that others can't. Persuaded by her roommate to try online dating, Lindy begins to suspect that one of her suitors is a deadly cyber stalker. When the local cyber-crimes unit uncovers a potential serial killer in Manhattan, all signs point to this mysterious stalker. Teaming up with the cyber unit and some hacker friends, Lindy leads the charge to solve these murders while unleashing her own style of "justice" on the streets of New York City.

This is an MTV series bit like a teen slasher movie over a 10 episode series. But that makes it sound worse than it actually is its a surprisingly decent watch hence the imdb 7.4 score. Fairly good storyline good plot and a few twists and turns to keep you guessing. The only downside it being an MTV series theres a scroll at the bottom of the screen every time a song is played with the title and artist on.

Fear the Walking Dead

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3743822/

Quote:What did the world look like as it was transforming into the horrifying apocalypse depicted in "The Walking Dead"? This spin-off set in Los Angeles, following new characters as they face the beginning of the end of the world, will answer that question.

IMDb gives it an 8/10 and I'd say thats a solid 8. Have watched the first two eps and its very good. Good actors, and a good plot/storyline. It needed this for the inevitible comparison with The Walking Dead.

I'm liking the fact that I know where the series is going, but the storyline doesn't. You can see things happening and have one of those smug looks on your face! For example, Police appear to be shooting unarmed people. It causes protests which escalate. You can see how this would quickly be put down to Police brutality, as trying to explain zombies, when no one is really sure what is going on would just cause more trouble.

If you have watched and enjoyed The Walking Dead, this is a must watch. If not, then you will enjoy it, but probably not quite as much. So far 2 eps in and it's not got the graphic violence of its sister series. It's still there, but not (yet) to anything like the same level.

Agree there mate watched the first couple, its a nice change to see a different cast. It would be good to see the WD cast just throw a camio appearance in though.

I like the way we're seeing the virus in its infancy so its not just rotting zombies everywhere just yet.

Public Morals.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3597854/

Set in the early 1960's in New York City's Public Morals Division, where cops walk the line between morality and criminality as the temptations that come from dealing with all kinds of vice can get the better of them.

Watched the first couple of episodes seems a good watch so far, storyline is basically about a family divided by law one side took to crime the other took to law enforcement. The uncle and nephew work in the morals division and along with the other detectives control New York's criminals with a firm but fair hand.

Deadwood.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0348914/

Quote:The town of Deadwood, South Dakota in the weeks following the Custer massacre is a lawless sinkhole of crime and corruption. Into this uncivilized outpost ride a disillusioned and bitter ex-lawman, Wild Bill Hickok, and Seth Bullock, a man hoping to find a new start for himself. Both men find themselves quickly on opposite sides of the legal and moral fence from Al Swearengen, saloon owner, hotel operator, and incipient boss of Deadwood. The lives of these three intertwine with many others, the high-minded and the low-lifes who populate Deadwood in 1876.

I'd avoided this (despite people telling me it was very good) because I'm not a fan of Ian McShane. I take it back! He is brilliantly cast in this series as Swearengen. As close to a perfect casting as you will get.
I also usually hate Paula Malcomson. She has major parts in Ray Donovan and Sons of Anarchy - with the most annoying Irish accent EVER in both those despite being born in Belfast. In this, again, the casting suits her and she isn't using an Irish accent.
Olyphant is great as the principled always angry ex lawman with a stiff manner which even translates to the way he moves. Always wanting to do right by others, despite that sometimes meaning he has to ignore his principles.
Too many other quality actors well cast to keep mentioning, but you will notice many from other series.

It's just 3 series. I've flown through the first two and am on the final series 3 now. I know it was cancelled and I'm just living in hope that it's not left on some kind of cliff hanger with the final episode of series 3. I've only watched E1 S3, but can't for the life of me see why it was cancelled. Shame they didn't market it better at the time as it's far superior to a lot of series I've watched.
IMDb gives it 8.8/10 and it's well worth that. I'd personally make it an easy 9/10. Well worth watching.
