Ring 2 Doorbell. - Kingy - 05-11-2018

Got an offer code for a Ring 2 Doorbell. Made it £129.Decided to give it a punt at that as it was an easy install using the wiring from my 'old' mechanical set up.

Installed it after getting back from Scotland. Didn't take long. Charge battery, download app, set up, mark up drill points for the unit, drill, fit ... done.

Works a treat. Covers the double drive and as its fish eye it covers anyone approaching from either side. It's set to pick up motion so records as people approach. Video automatically uploaded to the cloud and clarity is excellent. I like it a lot.
If anyone messes with a car, claims to have delivered something (but hasn't) or nicks something - It will be recorded in 1080 quality.  Cool Garage (where the bikes are) is covered.

You can speak to whoever is at the door through your phone and it works well - but that's not what I'm interested in. I just like having a video record of whoever is on the property.

So, if you fancy one for £129 delivered - fill yer boots.

Does what it says on the tin.

As someone approaches the house the Ring2 starts recording for 30 seconds.
That is recorded as 'activity'.

If they ring the bell then you have the option to speak to them but you don't have to.

You can also press 'Liveview' on your phone (via the app) and it will show you the view through the camera and allow you to speak to anyone there if you wish.

All recordings are held in the cloud for 60 days then deleted. If you want to keep any permanently you can download them.
First 30 days storage is free. After that its $30 per year if you want to continue with cloud storage.

For £129 I'm really impressed with it. Good visual deterrent and very handy to see whats going on when you aren't there.

Month on and its all good.
Really impressed with it and considering adding a couple of the cameras (£169 each) instead of cctv. Easier install and more secure as vids are cloud base storage with bomb proof remote access.

I'm still guessing with a system like this you do need a good tinternet connection and download speed.

RE: Ring 2 Doorbell. - Kingy - 06-14-2018

I think you need the doorbell near the router (to ensure strong wifi) and a reasonable speed.
I've had no issues but luckily it's three feet from router and we have high speed fibre t'internet so its perfect scenario.

Ring doorbell still working fine. Not as critical now the Arlo cameras are in place but its been handy a couple of times when I've been away and a delivery needing signing for has arrived. Have been able to direct postman and delivery driver to my neighbour Graham who has signed for it. Good for them (don't take anything back) and handy for me as no need to rearrange a delivery. Otherwise its a good visual deterrent to scallys (as are the cameras).
