Aahh well. The mighty S6 Edge has been retired. It's been faultless but time and new tech waits for no man. Wink. Replacement was going to be a Samsung S8, but at the eleventh hour I decided on the Google Pixel 2 XL. Very impressed with it.

What made you change at the 11th? I've been toying between both for my replacement for a couple of weeks so be interested in your reasoning (assuming it was reasoned and not just a dart in the board? Tongue ) Big Grin

You've all got too much money lol

I was looking at a refurb S6 as I'm running a S5 at the moment. What ya doing with the 6 ??

FG - Spent a while looking at spec and considering the jump in size from S6 to P2 XL. My nephew has the S8+ so I'd had a good look at that. The finger print sensor is very awkwardly placed and its no better that the XL in any respect bar looks if you prefer it aesthetically. Side by side the XL is lighter and a touch smaller. The S8 will soon be replaced too, whereas the Pixel will be late 2018 so has a better longevity as I will keep the phone 2-3 years.

I considered an Ipone but can't get past the locked down IOs so dismissed that.

Bought the P2 XL and decided I'd try it and send back (within 14 days) if it was too big to use. I remember hating the size of the Nexus 6 which was a nightmare - but now see that was because it was a different shape and heavier.

The phone now has a screen saver on (which is pretty much invisible) and a Spiegen thin case. I did try a Neo hybrid case but don't need that protection or the extra bulk it provides

So far I'm very impressed with the XL 2. Its incredibly quick. The fingerprint sensor opens the phone instantly and the display is excellent. Its not quite the 'infinity' display of the S8 but it's very close. (A reason why I went for the XL over the smaller Pixel as that has the older big black bars and smaller display).

JJ - Sorry mate, Samee has asked if he can have the S6. He may change his mind (he's a teenager) so I'll keep you informed as I've done nothing yet.

I'm glad to see you've stayed away from those pesky Iphones, I can't see why people rave over them.

No rush for an S6 for me yet so not to worry on that score.

I've not been following phones much a lately so will now have to look up your new purchase

Update a few month in. The P2XL is mint. Very impressed.

Split screen (Google maps / Tomtom speed cameras) is brilliant out on the road. Big enough screen to see everything and battery really good.
No issues that have bothered me.

Reports mention a 'blue hue' to the screen if you tilt the phone but I've just not noticed anything. I use the phone for so much (reading news, pdf's, emails, watching films, sport etc. etc) so it's not as if I've not tested it.

Also take LOADS of pics for social media for work. (Twitter and Instagram - not shite facebook). The pics are that good (because of the camera) some are used by Dawes/ Claud Butler.

So, the phone is a good 'un. I stuck a screen protector on and a slim Spigen case and all is well.
They are being discounted now so worth keeping an eye out as the XL is a seriously good piece of kit.

Pixel 2 now retired.
Replaced by an iPhone 11 Pro.
Screen size almost identical despite the iPhone being smaller.
I've had to give in and join the family on iPhones as I'm the only one not using one and my daughter has been moaning about no FaceTime since moving to Uni. So, it was time for an upgrade and so goodbye android, hello ios.

Initial impression is the phone is ridiculously expensive ... but as it retains far value that should help out come next change time as android phones do drop in value like a brick.
IoS is a lot better than it was. All apps have migrated over giving me most of the functionality I had. (I think).
Quality of the phone is much better (but it should be given the cost).

I take A LOT of photos, so camera and storage are very important. I had to clear the 64 Gig Pixel down twice. With any luck the 256 gig iPhone should last ok. Not tried it yet (only got phone today) but by all accounts the camera is even better on the iPhone which will be very good as the Pixel camera is excellent.

Big initial plus - the slightly smaller handset fits in my pocket nicely. Thats a big bonus,
