Guess that pretty well sums up Mombasa.
I hear the beach area at least used to be a big foreign tourist draw. Why? Beats the shit out if me. I hear the wildlife safaris are suffering too due to the fear of crime and the Islamic nutters.
Still, at 5 am tomorrow I'll be on a plane heading home.

Used to be a big tourist draw back in 80's but Kenya in general (Nairobi has always been a mega shit hole/dangerous place)became a dangerous place when the situation in Sudan/Somalia got real bad. In the RAF (on C130 fleet) guys used to positively 'drool' over the possibility of a Kenya trip in the 80's........Nairobi/Mombassa/Malindi.......cheap, good night life, suntan and very cheap but excellent tea/coffee brought back by the ton and always the possibility of a short safari trip.
Certainly not on my list of places to go back to these days.
