Longmire.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1836037/

Quote:Walt Longmire is the charismatic, dedicated and unflappable sheriff of Absaroka County. Widowed only a year, Longmire is a man in psychic repair that buries his pain behind a brave face and dry wit. Struggling since his wife's death and at the urging of his daughter, Cady, Longmire knows that the time has come to turn his life around. With the help of Vic, a female deputy new to the department, he becomes reinvigorated about his job and committed to running for re-election. When Branch, an ambitious, young deputy decides to run against him for sheriff, Longmire feels betrayed but remains steadfast in his dedication to the community. Longmire often turns to close friend and confidant Henry Standing Bear for support as he sets out to rebuild both his personal and professional life, one step at a time.

Fancied watching this after enjoying 'Justified' so much. It's not as good as Justified - and whit Longmire I found the first two series a little slow and hard going - but then it got MUCH better. Evidently it changed networks and the writers/producers were allowed to develop the plots much more. It shows as series 3 and 4 were great. Thoroughly enjoyed them. On the plus side series 5 is due out in the next few weeks, so a good time to have a look at it.

Zen.

http://gb.imdb.com/title/tt1618371/

Quote:Detective Aurelio Zen brings justice to modern-day Italy.

Well ^^ thats a crap summary!

Sadly only three episodes as the (book) writer died so it didn't go farther. Shame as it's very good. Plenty of faces you will recognise including a Bond Girl (from Craigs Casino Royale).
Sewell is excellent as the honest, moral and scrupelous Detective Zen - working in the openly corrupt Italian Police Force.
100% worth watching.

Stranger Things.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4574334/

Quote:In a small town where everyone knows everyone, a peculiar incident starts a chain of events that leads to the disappearance of a child - which begins to tear at the fabric of an otherwise peaceful community. Dark government agencies and seemingly malevolent supernatural forces converge on the town, while a few locals begin to understand that there's more going on than meets the eye

Really enjoyed this. It's just finished the first series (8 episodes) and will be deservedly returning. Main characters are the kids and the acting is superb. Other key characters (Sheriff, Parents and Dr Brenner are very well cast.
It's set in the 80's so easy for older folk like JJ to watch wistfully.
The plot is very 'Steven Spielberg'. All friendly and happy but then turne eerie, creepy and scary. Its really well written, acting great, storyline keeps you involved to the point I watched it over two days when I had manflu last weekend and was stuck in the house.
Bit of a must see really.

The Night Of ...

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2401256/

Quote:Naz is a strait-laced Pakistani-American student who is off to a must-attend party on a Friday night. His only available transportation being his father's taxi cab, Naz sets off into Manhattan. But his party-going plans are quickly forgotten when a mysterious young woman jumps aboard in need of a ride. Charmed by her intense intrigue and good looks, Naz gets swept up by her pressures. After a mind-altering night of drugs and passion, the woman is dead, and Naz finds himself in the crosshairs of a gruesome murder investigation, panicked and shaken, but possibly with a trace of doubt as to his own innocence.

I really enjoyed this series.
It's well written and the catsing / acting is excellent. You really get a feel for all the characters and especially the main cast, many of whom you are constantly second guessing.
It's also a quite hard look at integrating into a prison enviroment as you see the main character initially try to 'survive' in the brutal, untrustworthy environment.

Less than 10 episodes so you can fly through it - and it's def worth watching. Maybe not quite the ending you expect, but a very very good one which makes you re-consider a few things.   Cool

Preacher.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt5016504/

Quote:What if an angel and a demon procreate? What would that offspring be? Would it be holy or demonic or both? Preacher Is that tale. The offspring has no body, just a soul. That soul needs a body and chose Jessie. A preacher from Texas with a loss of faith and a drinking problem. The offspring called Genesis bonds with Jesse giving him the word of God. What he says is done.

This is mad, quirky, brutal, funny ....
Some incredible characters in this. 'Way out there' at times, but always really good fun.
Another well worth watching and set perfectly for it's second series ...

RE: TV Series Worth Watching. - Kingy - 08-31-2016

Also back on ....

Fear the Walking Dead ... Still dislike the cast. Still hope they all die. Still watching it though.

Mr Robot ... It's gone too far up it's own arse now. Some good characters introduced (and re-introduced) for series 2, but it's boring. Oh, and wait for the reveal a few episodes in. Explains a lot - but mostly why you have waster hours watching drivel.

Ray Donovan ... A strong series. This has really found itself and is now steadily moving towards what will be another explosive and tense finale. Brilliant cast and acting.

Halt and Catch Fire ... Good cast/ actors. Pretty poor storyline, but can't help but watch it!

RE: TV Series Worth Watching. - Kingy - 09-26-2016

Longmire Season 5 has been released on Netflix. The whole series on one go as seems to be the way. Quite enjoyable whilst never being brilliant.

Fear the Walking Dead has strayed from it's usual boring character based crap to imitating 'The Walking Dead' with it's storylines. Whilst a bit of a cop out it has made a few episodes much more bearable. Season finale approaching fast.

One which slipped under the radar for me but is very good ....

Tyrant.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2568204/

Quote:Barry Al-Fayeed has been living in the United States for twenty years, during which time he got married to Molly Olson, and had two children (Sammy and Emma), with both Molly and he working as physicians, Barry as a pediatrician, in Pasadena. This life belies the fact that at age sixteen, he, under his given name Bassam, escaped his family life in the middle eastern country of Abuddin, where the Al-Fayeeds have been the dictatorial rulers for generations, normally of violent and repressive regimes which he could not morally tolerate. He has not been back to Abuddin since. On the urging of his mother, Barry decides to go back to Abuddin with Molly and family in tow. He may find that leaving Abuddin this second time around is more difficult as he gets ensconced in the troubles the Al-Fayeeds are facing in general in continuing to rule the country as a repressive dictatorship. The longer Barry stays, the more it in turn affects the only life of democratic freedom Molly, Sammy and Emma ...

That ^^ type of description put me off watching this. It fails to give you a picture of what the plot is about. Essentailly 'Barry' has turned his back on his right of living life of immeasurable wealth as second son in a dictatorship which runs a country. He would have wanted for nothing, but events in his childhood meant he needed to escape that and live a life where he was an intelligent, unassuming Doctor with a perfect family. Wealthy and comfortable in all respects, but just a 'normal' person with a 'normal' family.
Barry and his family return for his brothers wedding. In a matter of a few days tragedy and villainy strike and Barry gets drawn back into the world he turned his back on. Past secrets (some are mindblowers twisting the plot) show that Barry is not necessarily the man he is perceived to be and as much as he tried to leave - Events make that impossible.

I could go on, but seriously - watch it. I'm upto series 3, midway through and there has just been another brutal hammer blow to the plot. IMDb gives it 7.9 and it's worth at least that imho. The writing and casting is very very good. It's (obviously) very topical at present and events which happen really hammer home how there are no good or bad sides with hostilities in the Middle East. It's such a grey area - and really does have you twisting one way then the other at times when watching.

Van Helsing

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt5197820/

Quote:Vanessa Helsing, distant relative of famous vampire hunter Abraham Van Helsing, is resurrected only to find that vampires have taken over the world. She is humanity's last hope to lead an offensive to take back what has been lost.

Bit of a slow start and told arse about face in the first three episodes, but does look like it could develop into a good series. Will only find out as the episodes are released, but sticking with it for now.

----

Westworld.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0475784/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

Quote:A series inspired by the 1973 film of the same title written by Michael Crichton about a futuristic theme park populated by artificial beings.

If you have seen the film you will know the score. It's an expensive series with some excellent cast members so looks incredibly promising. Only seen the first episode, but it's set the scene nicely. Have high hopes for this. IMDb gives it a 9.3 out of 10, and whilst I suspect their ratings are not genuine I'd expect this to do well as long as the writing is good as it has everything else.

----

Designated Survivor.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt5296406/?ref_=nv_sr_1

Quote:A low-level Cabinet member becomes President of the United States after a catastrophic attack kills everyone above him in the Presidential line of succession.

I've got a soft spot for Keifer '24' Sutherland. He looks to have got himself involved in another series that suits his acting style perfectly. I've watched the first three episodes and I'm enjoying it. The scene has been set (post terror attack) and the players are now growing into their roles as you try to decide who you think is genuine, who can be trusted and who can't. Looks like it could develop into a good series.

----

Animal Kingdom

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt5574490/?ref_=nm_knf_i3

Quote:The series centers on 17-year-old Joshua "J" Cody, who moves in with his freewheeling relatives in their Southern California beach town after his mother dies of a heroin overdose. Headed by boot-tough matriarch Janine "Smurf" Cody and her right-hand Baz, who runs the business and calls the shots, the clan also consists of Pope, the oldest and most dangerous of the Cody boys; Craig, the tough and fearless middle son; and Deran, the troubled, suspicious "baby" of the family.

This is like a cross between the film Point Break (original) and a 'diluted' Peaky Blinders. Speaking of which 'Michael' (Finn Cole) takes a lead part in this as Josh. It's got a second series confirmed so well worth a watch. IMDb gives it 8.1 and it's worth at least that. Great cast, well written, lots of twists (and a superb finale). Filmed well with plenty of gratuitous action / music scenes and enough light tongue in cheek scenes to stop it being too dark. Really enjoyed it.

Just finished watching this with Doris, she enjoy the dungeon and dragons aspect of it and is looking forward to another series. I thought the acting by Eleven was very good, as was that by Hopper. I'd certainly recommend it, specially if you've already got Netflix, you've already paid for it, might as well give a couple of episodes a watch and see how you feel!

Just started watching 'Touch' as well on Netflix (currently not all episodes available I don't think) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1821681/ - it's ok so far but I've only seen 3 episodes so will comment further after a bit more. I'd say it's good if you enjoy the mindset that everything happens for a reason and that randomness in the universe doesn't exist...

I watched that first time around (bit of Keifer luuurv again Wink  ). Very good cast and agree that it's great the way everything is entwined. It is a bit slow at times, but just about kept me interested upto it's finale in season 2. (It didn't get a season 3). Particularly liked Titus Welliver (plays the lead in Bosch - Well worth watching) and Maria Bello (did the American revamp of 'Prime Suspect' which wasn't a patch on the Uk variant but she's real puuurdy  Tongue ) in this ... among a very good cast.  Cool
