Series Seven - The Snowman
What a way to spend our Christmas Day! The Doctor returns after a mid-series break, now lurking in the shadows of Victorian England since losing his beloved companions Amy and Rory.

We’ve just about got over the loss ourselves, as we’re introduced to the newest addition to The Tardis. Jenna-Louise Coleman was announced as the new companion months ago. We first saw her playing Oswin, or as The Doctor knows her “Soufflé Girl”. The difference being she was a Dalek, now she plays gutsy Victorian barmaid by night and well-to-do Governess by day named Clara.

Not that I’m biased or anything, but I think Clara is a fantastic name ;)

The episode was simple and nostalgic, drawing parallels to the much loved Christmas creation The Snowman, which was its name sake. This time, we see The Doctor and the lovable Clara battling killer snowmen. Matt Smith and Jenna-Louise Coleman outdid themselves and proved a very promising second half of the series. Not to spoil the ending too much, but Clara, who over the hour we had grown to love, sadly passes before she gets a chance to accept The Doctor’s offer of being her new companion. Clara was quickly catching Rory up for the title of most killed member of Team Tardis!

It terms of script, it was a complete turn around from Moffat’s lacklustre “Asylum of the Daleks”. As writers, we are allowed to have off days; it’s a shame it had to occur as the Season Seven opener. But enough about that, Moffat’s second attempt with The Snowman more than makes up for it.

At the end of the episode, we see The Doctor running off to find Clara. It seems this is twice that she has unwillingly left him. He must find Clara Oswin Oswald. But the real question is, who is she going to be this time?

I am a little disappointed that she did not become his companion as 21st Century Clara, because I completely fell in love with her. I didn’t want another 21st Century girl that is supposed to “rival” Amy in terms of fearlessness. However if Moffat has hit the mark with Victorian Clara, I hope to God he has done the same with her counterparts.

2013 is set to be a cracking year!
